Alibi Ale Works, Incline Village’s local craft brewery and popular SNC hangout, is opening a new tap room in Truckee, California, on Memorial Day weekend.
Truckee’s historic downtown district was an obvious choice for their new location, said co-owners Kevin Drake and Rich Romo.
“Truckee is a fun, booming place,” Drake said. “In terms of culture and what people are looking for, Truckee is an ideal place. It also makes it much easier for Rich and myself to be at both tap room locations.”
Drake and Romo intended to open the new facility April 1, but renovations inside the historic Coffey Garage building at 10069 Bridge Street, which last housed a branch of Bank of the West, took longer than planned.
“The building is a complete build-out,” Drake said. “The old bank building had absolutely nothing we needed. Bathrooms, bar, kitchen, plumbing, electric and heating all need to be redone or built. Not many exterior improvements are needed, but the interior is getting completely wiped.”
The new tap room will be substantially larger than the one in Incline, with more parking, restrooms, and a proper stage for live music.
“The tap room in Truckee is going to be another type of experience compared to the one in Incline,” Drake said. “It’s going to have more of a nightlife feel, but also a family-friendly environment where people can sit down and have a beer or two.”
Truckee’s Alibi location will also serve food—specifically an array of nachos in unexpected flavors, including barbecued chicken, Greek, vegetarian and seasonal options. Offering food service allows minors to join the adults in the tap room, which is good news for hungry beer drinkers, but bad news for canines. “Since we are going to have food, we won’t be able to have dogs inside,” Drake said.
Drake said he hopes that by the summer of 2018, he’ll be able to add an outdoor beer garden at the Truckee site, where dogs will be welcome.
Alibi’s brewing operations will still take place at the Incline Village location, Drake said, but having two tap rooms gives the brewers a chance to brew more and different types of beer.
“We are excited to sell more of the beer we make ourselves,” he said. “This will help us to be able to have more creativity within our beers. More ‘tap-room-only’ brews will be made with a larger variety.”
